Our Help for Victims of Crime

Victim Support Lambeth aims to meet the individual needs of each person it helps.

Most of our work is carried out by skilled volunteers, trained to offer both a supportive ear and practical help, in fact, whatever it takes to help a victim of crime get their life back in order.  Their work is supported by additional services available through the Victim Support Lambeth office.  Click on the links above to learn more.

How we hear about victims of crime

Everyday the office receives basic details of people who have been victims of crime.  The information comes from the police, from health professionals, from other Victim Support Schemes, from friends and relatives, and from people who have themselves suffered a crime.  

Where the information is given to us by the police, health services or other professional organisation, this is done with the prior consent of the victim.  We do not provide these organisations with information about the cases they have referred to us unless requested to do so by the person themselves. Our service is confidential.

How we offer our service to victims of crime

Volunteers and members of staff try to contact every victim of crime referred to them, as soon as possible after the crime occurred.  This is done by phoning or visiting where possible, while letters sent to those who cannot be contacted in person.

Many of those we speak to are coping well with the effects of the crime, but some could benefit from help dealing practically or emotionally with what has happened.  It is these people that our service is here for.  A good deal of those using our service are simply pleased to find someone who can listen and understand.  For those who need more, we do whatever we can to help them recover from what are often horrific experiences.
